Tuppence, the cartoon dog, bears many similarities to Tuppence, the very first golden retriever to enter the lives of Noel and his family, though he admits that he may have added more than a modicum of artistic licence to the escapades depicted in this book. Noel was a regular contributor to Punch magazine, and is an editorial cartoonist for Church Times. In 2016, he was elected Chairman of The Cartoonists' Club Of Great Britain, the UK's oldest and largest organisation for professional cartoonists.
