Love Song: Tribute to John Denver - Cathy Gianfala Carriere CD

Cathy has been singing and entertaining people since she first stepped on stage at age 5, singing with her fathers Dixieland Jazz Band in her hometown of New Orleans. She sings many styles of music, including Classical, and on her new CD, Love Song A Tribute to John Denver, Cathy sings her heartfelt Tribute to singer/songwriter John Denver, recorded with his former Band members in Nashville, Tennessee on Music Row, at the beautiful Parlor Studio, produced by his very talented pianist Chris Nole. The superb musicians on this world-class recording are, Chris Nole, Pete Huttlinger, Jim Horn, Jim Connor, Brian Fullen and Byron House, all who have worked with many well-known artists in the Pop/Rock/Country genre. Special thanks to Chris Nole, for producing this great recording and giving Cathy this wonderful opportunity, and to the wonderful musicians; Audio engineers, Matt Legge and Micah Tanner; Erik Wolf for the Mastering; Robin Ruddy and Larry Sheridan, owners of The Parlor Studio, Photographer Terri Daigrepont photo of Cathy; and Mary and Bill Schott for their photo of Maroon Bells mountain Aspen, Colorado. On this album, Cathy sings John Denvers popular songs and her original Tribute song, Love Song A Tribute to John Denver, with a blend of Pop/Folk and Country. John Denvers music is very dear to her heart. Cathy said, When I first heard the words, Almost Heaven, West Virginia, sung on the radio, I asked. Who is that singing? From that moment, I fell in love with John Denvers unique, heartfelt voice. He was one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. Ive never heard any other singer with his resonant timbre, or anyone who has the amazing gift of writing songs the way he did. Cathy studied Opera and Classical Guitar, and has a wide vocal range, from deep, rich velvet tones to mezzo-soprano, and a unique versatility to her voice. Her voice has been compared to singers Karen Carpenter, Anne Murray, Barbra Streisand, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Kathy Matteo, as well as Opera singer, Marilyn Horne and others. Comments about Cathys CD from some of John Denvers close friends, fans, musicians and others include, Superb, clear, rich tones and vocals! Emotional and honest. Beautiful, heartfelt! Wonderful, well done! Perfect choice of songs. Cathy has been singing and playing John Denvers music since the early 1970s. In 2000, she had a profound dream about John Denver and at 1:00 a.m. she wrote the lyrics to Love Song: A Tribute to John Denver. Nine years later, while inspired to write new songs, she came across the lyrics to Love Song, and as she sat with her guitar, the music came to her in about 10 minutes. One of her dreams in life, was to meet and sing with John Denver, but that never happened. She expresses this to him in her song. Because of her heartfelt Tribute song, in October 2010 Cathy was invited by Karmen Dopslaff, a close friend of John Denvers to sing at Windstar in Aspen, Colorado at his Tribute. She didnt know until May 2010 when she spent only 4 hours in Aspen, that every year since his death, his former Band members perform a Tribute Concert, as fans from all over the world come to celebrate the life and music of John Denver. In October 2010, when she first sang in Aspen, John Denvers fans commented, Now here is a woman whose voice is so well-suited to sing John Denvers music. This past October 2012 was her third year to perform in Aspen. She had the great honor of being asked to be guest soloist for a Memorial Sunset Service for John Denver at his Windstar Land Conservancy Oct. 12, 2012, the 15th Anniversary of his death. As Cathy continues to sing other styles of music, she is also performing her Tribute Concert to John Denver. Her musical influences range from 1960s Folk/Rock, 70s Pop, John Denver, Glen Campbell, Jim Croce, David Gates, Karen Carpenter, Anne Murray, Classic Country, Country Pop, to George Gershwin, Cole Porter, 1930s, 40s, Jazz standards and Broadway. Cathy comes from a very musical family and is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. Her father, Joseph Gianfala, Sr. was a vocalist/guitarist of many styles of music, and her mother Peggy Sue, sister and brothers all sing. Cathy and her father performed for many years for special events, shows, concerts, parties, as well as hospital and nursing home shows. Before she studied classical guitar, her father taught her to play. The second song he taught her was, Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver. They sang this song together until her fathers death in 1995, so Cathy included this song on her CD in tribute to her father and to John Denver. A student of voice and Classical Guitar, Cathy has over 35 years experience as a professional vocalist/guitarist, performing on television, in Broadway musical productions, special events, concerts, weddings, Handels Messiah and many Church services. She is also a guitar instructor. Cathy won many first place music contests, as well as a vocal music scholarship. In 1977 she audtioned for Opryland and in 1983 for Star Search. Her first recording produced in 1991, A Call To Peace, is an album of original songs and popular Hymns. She plans to record her new songs, as well as a Jazz album and has other projects in the works. Cathy says, For me, singing and playing music is not about what I can get from it, but about what I can give to others. Music helps to heal those who are hurting. I hope to make a difference with the music I sing, write and play.
